Great new resource gentlemen. Just reviewed the entire thing and took a ton of notes. More importantly, incorporated your top strategies into today’s broadcast.. and will do so for the next week tracking metrics. Thanks and will report back with some hard numbers as we have them.

This is fantastic stuff guys. Thanks!

    I have a question about the “Ship-Jumpers” tip…

I implemented the recommended strategy (adding an opt-in page after they click the add-to-cart button to develop the “hot-list”)…

    Here’s the problem:

I use Aweber and my account is set up to require double opt in. The issue is, most of those that abandon cart and don’t purchase (the people I want to add to the hot-list and follow up with) also don’t confirm the double opt-in confirmation link.

And those that do go on to purchase will still end up getting the “hot-list” Aweber confirmation email as well as the customer confirmation email adding an extra layer of confusion for them (this also prevents me from adding an extra bonus or a discount or some other incentive for someone to click the “hot-list” confirmation email since customers will also end up getting that confirmation).

It seems like the tip was created for single opt-in users and I can’t seem to figure out a good way to get it to work with double opt-in.

    Any ideas?

  3. Daniel Denley on 8:17 am

double opt in does not work.

    I’ve tested it.

    Stay away from double optin.

I went to Eben Pagan’s seminar. He said the EXACT same thing.

  4. Robert Boydston on 1:10 pm

    Daniel,

Did Eben reccomend ditching double opt-in as a general rule or just in the strategy referred to above?

REPLY- Which strategy are you referring to?

  5. Julie Pianto on 8:02 pm

I would like some feedback on double vs single optin from Perry and Ryan’s experience.

I too use aweber (and think they are great), but was considering moving to another autoresponder for my new site purely because of single optin.

Does anyone else have any experiences they are willing to share?

REPLY- First off, just to make sure we’re on the same page. You can use ’single opt-in’ with Aweber:

    You can do this by:

Click on ‘My List’ and Select “Confirmed Opt-in.” Make sure your status box on the left is RED and turned off.

We do use single opt-in almost exclusively. Double opt-in does increase deliverability, but in the end you do lose money on this method.

  6. Ryan Deiss on 7:33 am

We use double opt-in in SOME circumstances…but it’s very, very rare. Either way, for this kind of thing you should definitely just go with single opt-in.

Just setup a new list in Aweber, and then go to My Lists >> Confirmed Opt-In and change that setting from “On” to “Off”.

    This will solve your problem.

(NOTE: Unless you have an older Aweber account, this change can only be made on new lists that have had no activity in them. If you have any questions about this, please contact Aweber’s support directly.)

    Ryan,

    Whats up buddy?

    Thanks for all the info.

Quick question: How do you set up the images in your emails that are clickable and take the customer back to the webpage.

I’m sorry if I misunderstood that part.

Cannot figure out the snag it operation and how to place it into my one shopping cart responder.

I’ve seemed to have tried everything.

Thanks in advance for your quick reply.

Hay Les G. hear ,so far so good and it all looks great, thanks for this awsome tools.

  9. Julie Pianto on 11:09 pm

    Hi ,

I confirmed with Aweber support that I have an account that I cannot use single opt-in :(

Apparently, some accounts were set “sender verified” when they were opened so that double opt-in is mandatory on all lists - even new ones.

However - Aweber have told me that if I open a new account, any new lists will give me the option of using single opt-in :o)

Thanks for the info on how you guys use it. Much appreciated.

This is really helpful stuff and delivered efficiently and clearly! Thanks so much for not wasting any time.

We use Infusionsoft and I’m hoping these strategies will work seamlessly with them. Anyone run into any problems with Infusionsoft?

    Thanks.

  11. maria gudelis on 3:57 pm

    This rocks!

It is so valuable - I almost bought it at the $97 price from your email blast to the sales page… and realized to log in here first to see if you offered it up to your TAC members!

Thanks and also for the PURE GOLD about how to do single opt in on aweber as I didn’t know that…this will be cool as I can now ’split test’ the single vs double since I just launched a new campaign that was getting 5% opt in on the double opt in….and noticed alot more emails in the aweber campaign have not confirmed yet so knew I had to move to single opt in!!!

  12. maria gudelis on 7:48 pm

Ryan - I just did an aweber message using the insert picture and the spam score of the email message went up by 2.2 because of the image…

….should I be concerned since it is under 5.0 score?

this is the exact message from the aweber spam assasin:

2.2 BODY: HTML: images with 2000-2400 bytes of words

REPLY- We get the same results, and you can avoid it by having the same amount of html characters as you do in text (or as close as you can). But if you’re under 5.0 you should be fine.

Thanks as newbie, very happy ,heaps of good info to take in,great stuff guys like the way presented….

  14. Tj Remingtonton on 10:04 pm

    Great Stuff…

You mention to use actual URLs in emails (like a friend would send).

Trouble is Awebers Tracking URLS are ugly, and smell of marketing.

Is there any software that will allow me to use a “Pretty” normal looking URL in my emails yet still track clicks?

    What are you guys using?

    Thanks

REPLY- The best way is to set up your own redirect. You can google “how to set up a redirect page” and I’m sure they have a lot of results. Here is a good one I just found, http://www.pa.msu.edu/services/computing/faq/auto-redirect.html.

  15. Tj Remingtonton on 10:06 pm

In the “hot list” strategy you are capturing the first name, last name, then email.

Have you tested only requiring the email on this step?

Or does having them enter the name/email feel more congruent to the actual order process?

REPLY- While we haven’t tested this, but you’re right on. It does feel more like an order process and has worked quite well for us.

  16. Ryder Rhonda on 4:21 am

Great info. Incorporating into a launch for my client. Will let you know how it goes.

  17. Rich Niccolls on 1:41 pm

I noticed with the Green Marketing, that in order to get the statistics for open rates, you need to send the email in HTML.

To this point, about 95% of my emails are being send in text format with Aweber. Is there any information here at the TAC that explains why this is a better approach?

    Thanks,
    Rich

REPLY- Check back in the report, all the info we have on why it’s better is there! Thanks :)

  18. Todd Dickerson on 2:55 pm

    Great info as always guys.

Testing out a couple new opt-in pages using these ideas and incorporating the click through strategies into a promo for a launch I’m in the middle of, should be great!

    Thanks!
    Todd

  19. Todd Dickerson on 10:24 am

Killed it using a PDF Report image in the email that drove to my blog then to the report -> 44% CTR (unique clicks & unique opens being used)

    http://eepurl.com/ciqJ

Not sure about using the email header yet, plan to split test it in the next email.

  20. Dan Gallapoo on 12:13 am

My Aweber account not only allows single opt-ins… but there is no “message not opened” option.

Is the reason I don’t have that function is because it’s an older account?

    Dan

REPLY- In the bonus tutorial video, Nathan, gives instructions on how to see if you have the right account and how to upgrade if necessary.

  21. Joshua Sharp on 11:09 pm

Absolutely loved this. Thank you. I’ll be making a couple changes to my aweber account (and a lot of changes to my landing pages) and am delighted about the amount of actionable content and examples you’ve given.

    Perry & Ryan,
This is some blockbuster amazing stuff here. You guys have a gift for teaching this stuff and making it lots of fun. The levity that you two bring into your teachings is aces!! Why make learning boring, when it can be fun and exciting…right?! Exactly! Anyways, I am looking forward to promoting your line of products after getting approved by Nathan…

Hey! This TAC report is off the hook!

**Do you know how to implement that 2-step check out with 1SC? so that it adds them to a “hot list” - or if not, do you know of any resources I could check out to get a php script or whatever necessary to make it work in 1SC 2-step check out process?

    Thanks so much!

Hey Guys, just completed the 13 (14) Sneaky Email Tricks. GREAT content. I’m a newbie, so I won’t be able to cite an ‘increase’ in results — but a trip to the leader board will be proof enough!!

BTW, the ‘go’ link for “Re-send to Un-opens” just drops you on a page displaying the title only. (I’m using Firefox 3.0.11)

This is good stuff. I just revamped one of my “free” report sites using the template you provided with the arrows and the email only optin.

My optins increased from 12% to 30% after 24hrs.

Its a big deal because I am paying for the traffic.

I think I just got my $1 investment back times 1000..

Hey guys - Is there any way to save the video report (the whole thing) and the Re-send demo to my hard drive so I can check them out when I’m not online? Or is it only for streaming? I was able to download and save the Twitter List-Building video - that was cool - and would like to do the same with this. THANKS!

REPLY- This report is currently only available for streaming.

  27. Ali Bierman on 6:11 pm

I just bought and went through the entire set of videos.
Oh my gosh! No wonder my list was growing so slowly and my open rates and click-throughs so dismal.

I am changing the way I do it all. Thank you. This is one of the best invesrtments I ever made.

One question, do you only send broadcast emails or do you send follow-up sequences too?

Thanks for telling me how to single opt-in in Aweber. Their support told me I could not do it.

REPLY- We send follow-up sequences as well depending on the product and the situation.

  28. Kennedy LeMage on 11:24 am

Regarding De-Personalise - here’s something that is testing FANTASTICALLY:

Ask for both first name and email.

    THEN

Don’t use their name in your response sequence for 3 weeks.
They forget they ever gave it to you.

So now when you DO use it…it looks super personal!

I was wondering what shopping cart product you used for the $1 bribe for TAC? I like the simple form added to the page and I’m looking to change my offer to a $1 30 day trial and a 30 day continuity billing. This would be a great help.

REPLY: Hey Chad, we used Infusionsoft but the page was a custom coding job using Infusion’s API. A decent coder should be able to make something similar for any cart with an open API.

Got something to say?
